Just as women experience Menopause — a drastic decline of estrogen — when they reach a certain age, men can also experience a plummet in hormone levels known as Andropause or “Low T.” It may begin as early as at age 30 when the male body produces less and less testosterone. It is also becoming a more prevalent problem compared to decades ago. I have treated several men in their early 30s for profound low testosterone (hypogonadism).

Is low T more prevalent because we are more aware of the issue now? In fact, no. Multiple studies reveal that the average testosterone level in men has been declining significantly with each decade. Why is this? We aren’t sure. There are theories abound. However, one theory may make the most sense: Cell phone usage. Where do most men place their cell phones? In their pants pocket leaving the testosteroneproducing testicles exposed to continuous low-levels of radiation. The most common consequences of low testosterone include low sexual libido, weight gain, and mental blah and fogginess. Men experiencing these conditions should get their testosterone checked. Additionally, lower testosterone levels can cause other side effects and conditions such as: Smaller penis size, low energy, anemia, and decreased muscle mass and bone density.

Thankfully, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can naturally restore the right amount and balance of a man’s hormones. The treatment can rebuild a man’s well-being by eliminating the frustrating symptoms of Andropause. Furthermore, HRT can reduce a man’s risk of developing an illness related to low testosterone levels, such as heart disease and diabetes.

At OB Men, we evaluate every patient uniquely and determine the best course of therapy. At OB Men, we incorporate 3 types of administration: Traditional injectable testosterone, topical (cream/gel) forms, and our most popular and effective treatment, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. The latter method involves placing subcutaneous bio-identical pellets under the skin in a simple 15-minute office procedure. Patients require insertion only two to three times each year and deliver a sustained release of testosterone over several months.

At OB Men we are one of the unique providers that utilize the patented “Re3 Advanced Pellet Delivery System” which ensures you the patient, have the safest and most comfortable experience when having your pellets inserted.

About the Author: Darryl S. Camp, M.D.

Dr. Camp is an accomplished Board-Certified Neurologist. He helped establish a new neurology residency in Austin Texas where he served as Program Director. He has been involved in numerous NIH funded and industry-sponsored trials. One of which would serve as a basis in his interest in regenerative medicine. Dr. Camp was a Principle Investigator in a trial whereby stem-cell precursors were injected in the carotid artery of stroke patients in an effort to re-grow blood vessels and tissue in the damaged brain. In the rat trials, rats regenerated brain tissue and recovered compared to the untreated rats. Fast forward to OB Men where Dr. Camp employs the use of Stem-Cells, Platelet Rich Plasma, and other techniques to regenerate human tissue. Whether it is to grow new blood vessels or nerves in the case of erectile dysfunction, or to correct scars and tighten skin through collagen regeneration, or to regenerate joints or tendons that have been injured, you can be assured that OB Men is on the cutting edge of regenerative medicine.
