Many people experienced a drop in libido during the lockdown and with restrictions still in place, many are still feeling the effects. The pressures of lockdown dealt a real blow to many men’s sex drives. With stress and anxiety soaring and day-to-day routines disrupted, sex is likely to have tumbled down the priority list.

As we gradually resume some kind of normality, the associated stresses seem likely to persist for a while. However, a low sex drive does not have to be one of them. If the last year has taken the wind out of your sails, there are several options to consider:

Lifestyle: A healthy diet and regular exercise are vital for healthy libido and sexual function. This is because they affect cardiovascular function to ensure proper blood flow to our sex organs. Several studies show that men who live a sedentary lifestyle (no aerobic exercise), are much more likely to lose their erection during intercourse. Blood flow is diverted to the lungs, heart, and other vital organs to maintain oxygenation. That means stealing blood from non- essential functions like an erection. Of further note, obesity lowers testosterone in males.

Lack of proper nutrition and exercise, as well as tobacco use, increases the risk of atherosclerosis (blocked arteries). There is a very strong link between erectile dysfunction and heart disease. Several studies have shown that if a man has ED, he has a greater risk of having heart disease. Having ED is as much a risk factor for heart disease as a history of smoking or a family history of coronary artery disease! At OB Men, we don’t just treat the symptoms of ED. We explore underlying causes.

Treatments: At OB Men, we offer a number of proven therapies to get that sex-pep-step back. First, we do a thorough assessment as to what the issues and concerns are. For example, the predominating factor may be a lack of sexual desire (low libido). This may often be associated with hormone imbalances such as low testosterone. Certain medications can lower libido as well.

Alternately, the desire may be there, but the ability to perform with a strong erection may be lacking. In that case, we explore underlying causes and determine the best non-surgical treatment. At OB Men, we offer regenerative therapies with P-Shot, and extracorporeal shock therapy (known as Gaineswave). We also offer peptide therapy (PT-141) that gives men the firmest and largest erections when compared to traditional oral agents.

About the Author: Darryl S. Camp, M.D.

Dr. Camp is an accomplished Board-Certified Neurologist. He helped establish a new neurology residency in Austin Texas where he served as Program Director. He has been involved in numerous NIH funded and industry-sponsored trials. One of which would serve as a basis in his interest in regenerative medicine. Dr. Camp was a Principle Investigator in a trial whereby stem-cell precursors were injected in the carotid artery of stroke patients in an effort to re-grow blood vessels and tissue in the damaged brain. In the rat trials, rats regenerated brain tissue and recovered compared to the untreated rats. Fast forward to OB Men where Dr. Camp employs the use of Stem-Cells, Platelet Rich Plasma, and other techniques to regenerate human tissue. Whether it is to grow new blood vessels or nerves in the case of erectile dysfunction, or to correct scars and tighten skin through collagen regeneration, or to regenerate joints or tendons that have been injured, you can be assured that OB Men is on the cutting edge of regenerative medicine.
